UCI Psychological Services Center (PSC) is now open!

The UCI Psychological Services Center (PSC), is now open and accepting referrals for in-person (Orange County) and virtual (California) therapy!

The UCI PSC is the official training clinic for doctoral students in clinical psychology at UCI. Under the supervision of licensed psychologists, PSC trainees provide low-cost evidence-based psychotherapy for individuals 18 and older; we also plan to expand our services in the near future to provide services for children and adolescents.

If you know anyone looking for in-person or online therapy who lives in the state of California, does not have insurance or cannot afford private practice rates, we would welcome your referrals.

Session fees range from $15-$80/session and are determined by where client’s income falls on our sliding scale. For more information, please give us a call at 949-824-5411 or visit our website at https://sites.uci.edu/psychologyclinic/.

Seeking children aged 4-17 from Anaheim, Garden Grove, Orange, and Yorba Linda!

The UCI PFAS Health Study Team is conducting a study to learn how drinking water that contains the chemicals PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, may affect the health of adults and children in Orange County, California. The study is part of a research cooperative agreement between the University of California, Irvine (UCI), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). It is part of a national Multi-Site Health Study on PFAS. This study is important now because of increasing concerns about the potential health effects of PFAS exposure.

Seeking adults of all ages and children aged 4-17, of any race/ethnicity, to participate in this research study:
– People who lived in Anaheim, Garden Grove, Orange, or Yorba Linda, CA during any part of 2000 to 2019 may be eligible.
– Adults will receive up to $50 and children will receive up to $75 for participating in the study with a parent.
– Participants will be asked questions about their work and home, the water they drink, and their health. Participants do not have to consume tap water to be eligible. Participants will also give a blood and urine sample, and have body measurements (e.g., height, weight, waist and hip size, and blood pressure) made by health workers at UCI. For child participants, we will also ask about social behaviors, emotions, memory, and learning.
– Participants will find out what their PFAS blood levels are, and how they compare to others in the U.S.

This study will contribute to everyone’s understanding of nationwide exposures to PFAS and their potential effects on health.

Adolescents ages 13-17 needed for study on brain development! (Up to $315 for participation!)

Our Brain Development Study aims to learn more about how depression works differently in the brains of teens who have a history of trauma in childhood.  We anticipate that the knowledge gained from this study will allow us to inform more effective prevention and intervention methods for future teens struggling with depression as a result of childhood trauma. Teens (and a parent/legal guardian) may be eligible if they are between the ages of 13 – 17 and have experienced abuse or maltreatment in childhood (before age 10).  Teens do not have to have depression in order to qualify for the study.  The study involves 3 visits and the teen and their legal guardian can earn up to $315 for participation, plus mileage compensation. There are no medications or interventions involved with this study.  However, in addition to being compensated for their time and effort, teens receive a free diagnostic assessment and neuropsychiatric testing, and we can provide results of these assessments upon the family’s request (we can also provide referrals and resources for further evaluation and treatment, if the family is interested).  We offer appointments on the weekends and in the evening to accommodate work and school schedules, and we can also provide taxi transportation, if needed.

To learn more, please visit the BRoAD Lab website or take a look at the study flyer for more information: Brain Development Study (English) (2)
